Denise Philipsen posted Thanks for an amazing conference!

I can't believe Midwest UX is over. It was great getting to see old friends and meet some really interesting new folks. Thanks for making this effort completely worthwhile. I think the new production team has their work cut out, but I have faith Midwest UX 2013 will be outstanding. See you next year :)

I can't be there but want to ask you - as a great ux candidate - what do you look at in a company?

Ian Smile posted whisky?

(ears perked up)

Matt Hornsby: You'll probably want http://www.barrel44.com/shortnorth.html
Ryan Cummings: As long as it's Irish and has some years in front of it.
Tarun Gangwani: Did somebody say... whisky (spelled like Marker's Mark does)?

Daniel Eizans posted Brain geeks?

Any of you lovely UX folks doing HCI/Neuroscience related research in your work? I'd love to buy you a drink.

Denise Philipsen: I'll pick your brain about what you do. Does that count for a drink?
Daniel Eizans: In my book that more than counts, so long as I get to pick right back. Let's plan on it Denise.
Tarun Gangwani: My undergraduate background is in cognitive science, and I constantly seek the intersection with HCI, particularly at a behavioral neuro level. Hope to see you tonight.

So who might be out and about for Saturday night? The Columbus Arts Fest will be in full swing, plus it's Gallery Hop Night up and down high street (Short North). Who wants to roam downtown Columbus with me?

Jason Mowery: mmmm, tasty hijinks.
Denise Philipsen: This is a story I want to hear about. :)
Leanna Gingras: Sounds like my kind of scene.

Ryan Cummings posted Unique hole-in-the walls eats

If you're a local, where do you go to grub/drink/dine/misbehave? What are some local establishments/mom&pop shops serving up some good eats? Please don't tell me TGIFridays or Red Robin... Thx

Denise Philipsen: Check your conference attendee packet for some ideas (handpicked, and a lot of my favorites).
Ryan Cummings: Just got it thanks, thx Denise!

Hey all, Due to some priority issues coming up, I have to give up the Responsive Design Workshop ticket that I bought. Anyone want in to that workshop that couldn't get in after it sold out?

John Phillips: I might be interested in that ticket if I get into town in time!
Denise Philipsen: Aw man, I already gave it up. Sorry! But fear not - Ben is planning another independent Responsive Design session in July. Will post some details before the conference is over.

Andrew Heaton posted Vinyl Shopping

If there's anything considered downtime, I'll lead an adventure to the best of Columbus' record stores. I usually return from Cbus with a few new LPs every visit.

Denise Philipsen: I would like to submit that adventures with Andrew are pretty fun. You'll get into all kinds of trouble. The good kind, not the "persona non grata" type. Oh. Wait. :)

Ben Callahan posted Responsive Workshop

Hello Midwest UXrs, I was hoping to meet a few of the folks attending the Hands On Responsive Web Design workshop next Thursday. Anybody want to fess up? Share a link to some RWD work that you've participated in? Cheers, Ben

Kristine Shuey: I'll be assisting as a volunteer during the workshop. Look forward to learning along the way.
Ben Callahan: Nice to meet you two! Looking forward to tomorrow...
Matt Hornsby: Won't make the workshop, but http://2012.columbusmarathon.com should be freed from its development subdomain soon.

Rachel Nabors posted Thursday morning at the Zoo?

I'm sure most everyone will be at workshops on Thursday morning, but if not, how about the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium? My travel buddy got super sick at the last moment, thus sending my itinerary into a tailspin. We were planning on visiting the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on Thursday morning, and I'm still jonesing to go. But aren't zoos more fun with friends? http://www.colszoo.org/

Denise Philipsen: The zoo is pretty neat! I'll be downtown at the COSI doing my thang, tho. Hope you can find a few takers!

So I tried a new place recently, and it was EXCELLENT and still a bit underground. Anyone up for trying The Explorers Club with me, Sunday morning? http://www.explorersclubmv.com/

Denise Philipsen posted Hotels and Room Sharing

Hey all Midwest UX'ers! I think there might be a few cost-savvy folks looking to coordinate a room share. If that is you, use Crowdvine to find your roommate! (there is an extra fee if you want me to vet/verify your potential roommate.) See you all soon!

Leanna Gingras: If we have any last-minute-planners here, I have an extra bed at the Holiday Inn that I'd be willing to split. Send me a message!
David Farkas: I still have an extra bed at the Westin (2-bed room, not cramming people in) Thurs/Fri/Sat night or any subset
Constance Semler: Priceline worked wonders for me. When they tell you that your named price is too low and you need to raise by $28, don't believe 'em. Start over with a $5 raise and you'll get a deal. Also try airbnb.com.

Just wanted to double check and see if we could attend the $50 workshops without purchasing a $350 pass to the full conference? Does anyone know? Sounds like we'll get approval to send more people if we just did the workshops this year, but didn't want to assume we could get in without the full conference pass.

Denise Philipsen: You absolutely can attend the workshops only - you don't need a conference pass to do so. However, as a co-producer (which makes the following a bit biased), I would definitely suggest attending the conference - with the quality of an international I... [read more]
Amanda: Perfect - thanks Denise! I'm hoping for a full pass but workshops are better than nothing! At least it's on our radar and we can budget better for it next year!

Spectacular speakers? Exciting events? Attractive attendees?

Chris Martin: You're right of course. I grew up in the mitten, and went to kollege in the UP.
Rachel Nabors: I'm excited about the Women in UX lunch panel. I get to ask some of my favorite UXers questions and meet new awesome people!
Denise Philipsen: I have to see this!

Jen Matson left a note for Sue Fensore

Yes, vinyl! My profile pic is me in front of a couple o' bookcases' full of records. Favorite album cover? Oh, so hard to separate the music from the art. Maybe Wire - "154" or The Chills "Submarine Bells." Both perfectly suited to the music inside.

Sue Fensore left a note for Jen Matson

Record collector?! As in: vinyl? I used to be a deejay, and my brother's been one for 30 years! What is your favorite album cover?

Sue Fensore left a note for Jodee Jernigan

No particular decade for me - my knowledge is a bit spread out over time and genre, but by no means comprehensively. Trading Places is a funny movie!

Thu, May 10 at 1:13AM

Jodee Jernigan left a note for Sue Fensore

Definitely! 80s movies are kind of my thing. Real Genius, Trading Places are a few I know by heart. You?

That movie quoting thing, yeah, I've got that affliction too. We should compare quotes.
